In an unfortunate incident, two youngsters in love allegedly attempted suicide by consuming an overdose of Chloroquine tablets near Kasipatnam village near here late on Tuesday. The girl died and the boy is undergoing treatment and is said to be out of danger.

According to the police, Achari, 23, a carpenter by profession, and T. Rama Devi, 21, an ANM in Garugubilli village, were in love for the last three years. Achari was recently selected to the post of a police constable.

As their families were against their marriage since they belonged to different communities, the duo took the extreme decision. On Tuesday they decided to end their lives and consumed Chloroquine tablets.

When Rama Devi fell unconscious, Achari panicked and called one of his friends, Ramesh, who in turn informed about the incident to Achari’s mother, Sanyasamma. His mother, shifted the two to S Kota government hospital where doctors declared Rama Devi dead.
